Citewell Acceptable Use Policy

This Acceptable Use Policy ("AUP") explains the rules that apply when using the Citewell website, Citewell Portal and associated software, tools and services ("Citewell" or the "Service").
Citewell is a business-to-business software platform designed to help organisations analyse, structure and improve the written content and knowledge represented through websites and digital properties they own or are authorised to manage.
This AUP forms part of the Citewell Terms of Service. By using Citewell, you agree to comply with these rules.
1. Intended Use of Citewell
Citewell is intended for legitimate business use.
The platform may be used to analyse existing website content, identify opportunities to improve a digital presence, organise and structure business knowledge, and generate, regenerate or improve written content through AI-assisted workflows.
Users are expected to work with information they own, are authorised to use or otherwise have a lawful basis to process.
Citewell is designed to assist human expertise and editorial decision-making. It is not intended to replace human responsibility for the accuracy, legality or suitability of information ultimately published.
2. Text and Structured Knowledge Only
Citewell's generative AI functionality is limited to text-based content and structured knowledge.
Citewell does not provide tools for generating, regenerating, editing or manipulating images, photographs, artwork, video, audio, speech, voices or music.
Citewell does not provide functionality for creating deepfakes, face swaps, synthetic likenesses, synthetic speakers, voice clones, avatars or other synthetic visual or audiovisual media.
Citewell does not provide tools designed to impersonate real individuals.
3. Human Review and Publishing
AI-assisted outputs can contain errors, omissions or inaccurate information. Users are responsible for reviewing Citewell outputs before relying upon or publishing them.
Citewell does not autonomously publish generated or regenerated content to customer websites, search engines, social networks or other public third-party platforms.
Users retain editorial control over what they choose to accept, modify and publish.
The person or organisation publishing an output is responsible for ensuring that it is accurate, lawful, appropriate and consistent with any professional or regulatory obligations that apply to them.
4. Prohibited Content and Activities
Citewell must not be used to create, facilitate, promote or distribute content or activity that is unlawful, fraudulent, deceptive, defamatory, abusive or intentionally misleading.
In particular, you must not use Citewell to:
- commit or facilitate fraud, scams or other deceptive practices;
- fabricate qualifications, expertise, research, evidence, reviews, testimonials, product performance or other factual claims;
- impersonate another person, company or organisation;
- generate content intended to mislead people about its origin or authenticity;
- promote or facilitate unlawful discrimination;
- harass, threaten, exploit or abuse individuals;
- create or distribute defamatory material;
- distribute malware, malicious code, phishing material or other harmful content;
- gain or attempt to gain unauthorised access to systems, accounts or information;
- facilitate illegal activity;
- violate applicable laws or regulations; or
- use Citewell for purposes prohibited by our payment providers or other infrastructure providers where those restrictions lawfully apply to the Service.
We may restrict functionality or access where we reasonably believe Citewell is being used for prohibited activity.
5. Intellectual Property and Third-Party Content
Citewell is intended to help organisations make better use of knowledge and content they are entitled to use.
You must not use Citewell to deliberately copy, plagiarise, reproduce or republish substantial copyrighted third-party material without permission or another lawful basis.
You must not use Citewell to:
- pass another person's or organisation's work off as your own;
- systematically reproduce a competitor's website or content;
- remove or falsify ownership or attribution information;
- circumvent copyright protection or technical access restrictions;
- knowingly infringe trademarks, database rights or other intellectual-property rights; or
- generate derivative material where doing so would unlawfully infringe third-party rights.
Some Citewell features may reference or analyse publicly available information for legitimate research, benchmarking, comparison or information-gap analysis. Public availability does not mean that the information is free of intellectual-property rights.
Citewell reserves the right to suspend accounts where we reasonably believe the Service is being used for plagiarism, systematic copying or intellectual-property infringement.
6. Websites and Digital Properties
You should only use Citewell in relation to websites, accounts and digital properties that you own, manage or are otherwise authorised to work with.
You must not use Citewell to gain unauthorised access to another organisation's systems, administrative areas, private information or restricted content.
Analysis of publicly available information does not give a user control over, or ownership of, the underlying website or information.
7. Accuracy, Expertise and Authority
Citewell is designed to help organisations better express genuine knowledge and expertise.
It must not be used to manufacture false authority.
Users must not knowingly use Citewell to fabricate expertise, credentials, experience, evidence, sources or factual information in order to make an organisation or individual appear more authoritative than they genuinely are.
Where Citewell assists with the generation or regeneration of written content, users are responsible for ensuring that factual claims accurately represent the organisation behind them.
This principle also applies to the use of the Citewell Authority Mark ::c. The mark may not be copied, altered, self-awarded or displayed in a way that falsely represents Citewell's assessment or endorsement.
8. Search Engines and AI Systems
Citewell may help users improve the clarity, structure, usefulness and machine-readability of information within their digital presence.
It must not be used to engage in deceptive practices intended to manipulate search engines, AI systems or other third-party platforms through false information, fabricated evidence, impersonation or other prohibited means.
Citewell does not guarantee search rankings, indexing, traffic, inclusion within AI-generated answers, or a cite or attribution from an AI system.
Independent platforms decide what information they crawl, retrieve, rank, reference or cite.
Users must not misrepresent Citewell outputs as guaranteeing or controlling those decisions.
9. Regulated and Safety-Critical Information
Citewell may be used by organisations operating in technical, regulated or professional fields, but Citewell itself does not provide legal, medical, financial, engineering, regulatory, safety or other regulated professional advice.
Users must not rely solely on AI-generated or AI-assisted outputs where an error could create a significant risk to health, safety, legal rights or regulatory compliance.
Where content concerns legislation, regulations, safety requirements, technical specifications or professional obligations, users are responsible for checking relevant information against appropriate authoritative sources and obtaining professional advice where necessary.
Citewell must not be used to intentionally generate dangerous instructions or materially false safety information.
10. Personal Data and Privacy
Users must only provide personal information to Citewell where they have a lawful basis and appropriate authority to do so.
Citewell must not be used to unlawfully collect, infer, expose or distribute sensitive or private information about individuals.
You must not use Citewell to conduct automated profiling or make automated decisions about individuals that produce legal or similarly significant effects.
Use of personal information through Citewell is also subject to our Privacy Policy and applicable data-protection law.
11. Platform and Account Abuse
You must not attempt to interfere with the security, integrity or normal operation of Citewell.
This includes attempting to bypass account or usage restrictions, introducing malicious code, probing the platform for vulnerabilities without authorisation, accessing another customer's data, deliberately overloading the Service, or using automated systems to scrape the Citewell platform itself without permission.
You must not reverse engineer, extract, reproduce or attempt to discover Citewell's proprietary algorithms, scoring methodologies, system logic or other protected technology except to the extent such restriction is prohibited by applicable law.
Citewell accounts and access credentials must not be sold, transferred or shared outside the permissions of the applicable subscription or an authorised agency, reseller or commercial arrangement.
12. Enforcement
We may investigate activity that appears to breach this AUP.
Depending on the nature and severity of the issue, we may restrict particular functionality, request additional information, require offending material or activity to be removed, temporarily suspend an account, or permanently terminate access to Citewell.
Serious cases involving fraud, malicious activity, deliberate infringement, security attacks or unlawful conduct may result in immediate suspension or termination.
Where required by law, we may preserve or disclose relevant information in response to a valid and legally binding request from a competent authority.
We will not knowingly permit Citewell to be used as a platform for unlawful or abusive activity.

14. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Acceptable Use Policy as Citewell develops or where necessary to address changes in technology, applicable law, security requirements or patterns of platform misuse.
The date at the beginning of this policy identifies the current version.
