Nature of the Citewell Service
Citewell provides digital presence analysis, content and contextual assessment, AI search and visibility analysis, information-gap identification, content regeneration assistance, structured-data generation and related tools intended to help users develop, organise and maintain digitally accessible knowledge. The Service may include analysis relevant to search engines, answer engines, generative AI systems and other machine-assisted discovery environments.
Citewell may identify opportunities to strengthen published information, develop retrievable knowledge, address information or documentation gaps, and improve the clarity and structure of a user's digital presence. Recommendations and generated materials are provided to assist the user's own editorial and publishing processes. Users remain responsible for reviewing, approving and publishing their content and for the accuracy, legality, intellectual-property rights and suitability of material they choose to publish.
Search engines, AI systems and third-party platforms independently determine how information is crawled, indexed, retrieved, interpreted, ranked, displayed or cited. Citewell therefore does not guarantee that use of the Service will result in indexing, ranking, AI visibility, retrieval, brand mentions or citations by any particular third-party system.
Citewell Terms of Service & Platform Rules

These Terms of Service and Platform Rules ("Terms") govern access to and use of Citewell, including the Citewell website, Citewell Portal and associated software, tools and services (together, the "Service").
Citewell is operated by Sco Logic Ltd, registered at Ancrum North Lodge, Jedburgh, Scottish Borders, TD8 6TX, company number SC184764 ("Citewell", "we", "us" or "our").
By creating an account, purchasing a subscription, accessing the Citewell Portal or otherwise using the Service, you agree to these Terms.
If you use Citewell on behalf of a company, agency or other organisation, you confirm that you have authority to accept these Terms on its behalf.
1. What Citewell Does
Citewell is a business-to-business digital knowledge and content software platform that helps organisations analyse, understand and improve the written content and knowledge represented through websites and digital properties they own or are authorised to manage.
Through the Citewell Portal, users may use software tools to:
- analyse existing website content and digital information;
- identify opportunities to improve the clarity, structure, consistency, usefulness and freshness of written information;
- identify gaps and opportunities within an existing digital presence;
- improve and regenerate written content from seed text, business information and other written knowledge supplied or approved by the user;
- organise information into structured and machine-readable formats;
- understand relationships between topics, entities, content and sources;
- monitor aspects of a website and its written content over time;
- create reports relating to a user's digital presence; and
- prepare written content and structured information for manual deployment to websites controlled by the user.
Citewell combines automated analysis and AI-assisted language-processing technologies with information supplied or approved by the user.
Citewell does not operate as an unrestricted synthetic-content generator. Its text-regeneration workflows are intended to work from user-supplied or user-approved seed material and business knowledge.
Citewell is a software tool. It does not replace the knowledge, judgement, expertise or editorial responsibility of the organisation using it.
Text and Structured Knowledge Only
Citewell's content-generation and regeneration functionality is limited to written content and structured knowledge.
Citewell does not provide functionality for generating, regenerating, editing or manipulating photographs, images, artwork, synthetic imagery, video, audio, speech, voices, music or other visual or audiovisual synthetic media.
Citewell does not provide tools for creating deepfakes, face swaps, synthetic likenesses, synthetic speakers, voice clones or avatars.
2. Seed Text, Business Knowledge and User Inputs
Citewell's text-regeneration workflows depend upon information supplied or approved by the user.
This may include existing website copy, business descriptions, product and service information, answers to questions, technical or specialist information, factual notes, company terminology, topic information, written seed text and other organisational knowledge the user chooses to provide.
Users are responsible for ensuring that information supplied to Citewell is accurate to the extent reasonably necessary for its intended use and that they are authorised to provide and process it.
Citewell is designed to help users improve the expression and structure of existing organisational knowledge. It is not designed to independently invent business expertise, qualifications, evidence, research findings, product performance or other factual claims.
3. Human Control and Editorial Responsibility
Citewell is designed around human control.
Automated and AI-assisted outputs may contain errors, omissions, outdated information, inappropriate interpretations or other inaccuracies. Users must review outputs before relying upon or publishing them.
Citewell does not autonomously publish generated or regenerated content to a user's live website or distribute it to search engines, social networks or other public third-party platforms.
The user decides what information is supplied to Citewell, what organisational knowledge is used, whether an output accurately reflects their organisation, whether it is suitable for its intended purpose, and whether it should be edited, accepted, rejected or published.
Users are responsible for ensuring that anything they publish complies with applicable laws, regulations, professional obligations and third-party rights.
The user retains final editorial control over anything they choose to publish.
4. AI-Assisted Text Regeneration
Certain Citewell functions use artificial-intelligence and language-model technologies to analyse, organise, structure, improve and regenerate written content.
These workflows operate from seed text, business information and other written knowledge supplied or approved by the user.
The purpose of this functionality is to help users improve the clarity, structure, usefulness and expression of existing organisational knowledge.
AI-assisted outputs are probabilistic and may not always be complete, current, accurate or appropriate for a particular purpose.
Citewell does not represent regenerated content as independently verified fact merely because it has been processed through the Service.
Users must independently review factual statements material to their business, customers, products, services or legal obligations before publication or reliance.
Citewell must not be used to fabricate expertise, qualifications, credentials, evidence, references, citations, customer experiences, reviews, testimonials, research findings, product performance, regulatory approvals, safety claims or other factual assertions intended to mislead.
5. Search Engines, AI Systems and Third-Party Platforms
Citewell helps organisations analyse and improve the quality, clarity, structure and representation of information within their digital presence.
Search engines, AI providers, crawlers, answer engines and other third-party systems operate independently of Citewell and determine what information they crawl, index, retrieve, rank, display, reference or cite.
Accordingly, Citewell does not guarantee search rankings, increased website traffic, indexing, crawling, inclusion within AI-generated answers, a cite or attribution by an AI system, recognition as an authoritative source, or any particular commercial result.
References within Citewell to authority, visibility, cites, citations, sources or structured knowledge describe areas the Service is designed to help users understand and improve. They are not guarantees concerning independent third-party systems.
6. Your Content and Knowledge
You retain ownership of the content, information and other materials you submit to Citewell ("User Content"), subject to any rights belonging to third parties.
Citewell does not claim ownership of your underlying business knowledge, expertise, website content, trademarks or other intellectual property merely because it is processed through the Service.
You grant Citewell a limited, non-exclusive right to host, process, reproduce and transform User Content only to the extent reasonably necessary to provide, secure, maintain and operate the Service.
You confirm that you own, control or have appropriate permission to provide User Content to Citewell.
The knowledge, experience and expertise belonging to your organisation remain yours.
7. Regenerated Content
Subject to applicable law, third-party rights and these Terms, users may use written content regenerated through their Citewell account for legitimate business purposes.
Citewell regenerates content using seed text, business information and other written knowledge supplied or approved by the user.
Users are responsible for reviewing regenerated content before publication and determining whether it contains factual inaccuracies, unsupported claims, inappropriate wording, outdated information, confidential information or potentially infringing material.
Citewell should be used to improve the expression of genuine organisational knowledge, not to falsely claim expertise, fabricate evidence or misrepresent the origin of information.
8. Structured and Machine-Readable Information
Citewell may assist users in preparing written information in structured or machine-readable formats.
Such functionality does not guarantee that any third-party system will discover, process, accept, index, rank or cite that information.
Users remain responsible for reviewing structured information before deployment and ensuring that it accurately represents the corresponding human-readable information.
9. Third-Party and Publicly Available Information
Some Citewell analytical features may reference or analyse publicly available information for legitimate research, benchmarking, comparison or information-gap analysis.
Public availability does not transfer ownership or remove intellectual-property rights.
Citewell must not be used to deliberately copy substantial copyrighted material without permission or another lawful basis, plagiarise third-party content, systematically reproduce a competitor's website, fabricate references, circumvent technical restrictions, obtain information through unauthorised access or otherwise infringe third-party rights.
10. Professional, Legal, Regulatory and Safety Information
Citewell does not provide legal, medical, financial, regulatory, engineering, safety or other regulated professional advice.
Users operating in regulated, technical, professional or safety-critical industries are responsible for verifying relevant information against appropriate authoritative sources before relying upon or publishing it.
Nothing within Citewell transfers the user's legal, regulatory, professional or safety responsibilities to Citewell.
11. Acceptable Use
Citewell may only be used for lawful business purposes.
Users must not use the Service to commit fraud, deceive others, impersonate others unlawfully, fabricate authority or evidence, distribute materially false information, infringe intellectual-property or privacy rights, distribute malware, gain unauthorised access, circumvent platform controls, interfere with the Service or otherwise engage in unlawful or abusive activity.
Users must not attempt to discover, reproduce or circumvent Citewell's proprietary algorithms, prompts, scoring methodologies, models, workflows, internal systems or other protected technology.
Use of Citewell is also subject to the Citewell Acceptable Use Policy, which forms part of these Terms.
12. Accounts and Security
Users are responsible for activity conducted through their Citewell accounts and for maintaining the security of their credentials.
Account credentials must not be shared beyond users permitted by the applicable subscription.
Citewell uses technical and organisational measures intended to protect account information and appropriately separate customer data, although no internet-based service can guarantee absolute security.
13. Subscriptions, Points and Payment
Certain Citewell features require a paid subscription and use a points-based usage system.
The applicable subscription price, billing period, included points and features will be displayed before purchase.
Points represent usage capacity within Citewell. Different tools, reports and workflows may consume different numbers of points.
Unless expressly stated otherwise, points have no cash value, cannot be exchanged for money and are not a stored-value or financial product.
Payments may be processed by an authorised third-party payment provider or Merchant of Record. Transactions may therefore also be subject to that provider's applicable terms and privacy practices.
Taxes may be calculated or applied where required by law or by the applicable Merchant of Record.
14. Free Trials
Citewell may offer free or promotional trial access.
The duration, point allocation, functionality and other conditions of a trial will be displayed during registration.
Trial access is intended to allow prospective customers to evaluate Citewell using their own authorised business information and digital properties.
Citewell may restrict trial access where we reasonably believe free trials are being abused.
15. Cancellation and Refunds
Users may cancel recurring subscriptions using the cancellation options available through their account or applicable payment provider.
Unless otherwise stated or required by law, cancellation prevents the next renewal but does not immediately terminate access already paid for.
Refund eligibility is governed by the Citewell Refund Policy and any applicable Merchant of Record transaction terms.
Nothing in these Terms limits mandatory rights that cannot lawfully be excluded.
16. Citewell Intellectual Property
The Citewell platform and its underlying software, interfaces, workflows, algorithms, prompts, scoring methodologies, models, system architecture, documentation, designs, branding and proprietary technology remain the property of Sco Logic Ltd and its licensors.
This includes Citewell's proprietary methods for analysing, structuring, evaluating and improving digital knowledge, written content and authority.
Nothing in these Terms requires Citewell or Sco Logic Ltd to disclose proprietary methodologies, algorithms, prompts, scoring criteria, weighting, thresholds, data relationships, internal workflows, system logic or trade secrets.
The Citewell name, associated branding and Citewell Authority Mark ::c are proprietary to Sco Logic Ltd and may not be copied or used in a way that falsely suggests endorsement, certification or authority status.
17. Third-Party Technology and Services
Citewell may use third-party technology including hosting services, databases, APIs, language-model providers, payment services and other infrastructure.
Certain text-processing functions may send relevant written information to third-party artificial-intelligence or language-model providers where necessary to perform a requested workflow.
Such processing is subject to the Citewell Privacy Policy and applicable contractual arrangements with those providers.
18. Availability and Changes
We aim to provide a reliable Service but do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free availability.
Citewell may modify functionality, reports, content workflows, point requirements, supported formats and integrations as the Service develops.
19. Suspension and Termination
We may suspend or terminate accounts for material breaches of these Terms, unlawful or abusive use, overdue payment, security or legal risks, infringement, fraud or where required by law.
Serious abuse, fraud, security attacks or unlawful activity may result in immediate suspension or termination.
20. Disclaimers
Citewell provides software intended to assist organisations in analysing and improving how their written knowledge and content are represented through their digital presence.
Citewell does not warrant that every analysis, report or regenerated output will be complete, unique, accurate or error-free.
Citewell does not guarantee search rankings, traffic, indexing, AI retrieval, AI cites, authority status or any other particular third-party or commercial outcome.
21. Limitation of Liability
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability where doing so would be unlawful.
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Citewell and Sco Logic Ltd will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential losses or loss of profits, revenue, anticipated savings, goodwill, business opportunity or business interruption.
Subject to liability that cannot lawfully be limited, Sco Logic Ltd's total aggregate liability arising from the Service or these Terms will not exceed the total amount paid by the relevant customer for the Service during the three months immediately preceding the event giving rise to the claim.
22. Privacy and Data Protection
Processing of personal data is described in the Citewell Privacy Policy.
Users are responsible for ensuring they have an appropriate lawful basis and permissions for personal data they instruct Citewell to process.
23. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms to reflect changes to Citewell, applicable law, security requirements or underlying technologies.
Where changes materially affect existing customers' rights or obligations, reasonable notice will be provided where required by law.
24. Governing Law and Jurisdiction
These Terms and any dispute or claim arising out of or in connection with them shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Scotland.
Subject to any mandatory rights or jurisdiction that cannot lawfully be excluded, the Scottish courts shall have exclusive jurisdiction over disputes arising from or relating to these Terms or the Service.
